Inside the making of NC Headline, our new brand typeface
This week we launched our new brand typeface – meet NC HEADLINE! Typography has always been a big part of Newspaper Club's visual...

A few weeks ago, we raised a toast to the second issue of our annual newspaper, The Printing Press, with pals and contributors at Secret Riso Club in Brooklyn. If you were wondering what's inside the newspaper – here's a peek behind the cover!

This time the spotlight is on NYC: the city that never sleeps and never seems to run out of fabulous newspapers for us to print. As creative director Mark Baker-Sanchez put it during the panel discussion at our launch, there’s an “audacity that New Yorkers have to tell their stories."

You could say that audacity comes through in everyone featured in this issue. Our cover star, Sunday Club founder Ira Blossom, launched his puzzle newspaper from home last year, packaging tens of thousands of issues by hand. Now he sells copies from his very own newsstand near Union Square (and recently announced that Sunday Club will soon be launching in the UK, too!)

When Michael Fusco-Straub's local bookshop closed, he took matters into his own hands – and shelves – and opened Books Are Magic in Brooklyn. He tells us about the joy of working with booksellers to put together the shop's annual holiday newspaper.
Photographer Jonah Rosenberg takes us behind the scenes at the Westminster Dog Show with his newspaper, Animal Magnetism. He shares how he made images that feel “unmistakably my own." No small feat at an event that's been photographed for more than a century.

Susanna Hayward, an art director at New York Magazine, and Laura Feinstein, an editor at Adobe Design, have years of experience making publications with distinctive points of view. They offer up some design and editorial lessons they’ve picked up along the way. Here's one from Susanna: “Design a layout you love, then start over.” Try it!
Speaking of design, we worked once again with brilliant D8 Studio for this issue, having a lot of fun with the New York theme along the way. Don't miss our mascot, Russell, is his spiffy new “I [NEWSPAPER] NY” t-shirt.

If you're in NYC, you may still be able to pick up a free copy from Printed Matter, Casa Magazines or Old News Newsstand. We'll also be bringing The Printing Press to events we're sponsoring over the coming months, starting with INTL in Glasgow on 11 November.
Keep an eye out – and if you get your hands on one, we'd love to hear what you think.
