7 newspapers to inspire you in September
Summer days, drifting away...but it's not over yet! We’ve got a batch of colour-packed newspapers to see the season out. This month Yuk...
The Christmas catalogues have started rolling off our presses! Before the rush really begins, we’re looking back at some of our favourite festive newspapers we've printed over the years.
We’ve rounded up 7 inspiring examples, from Choosing Keeping’s annual mini catalogue – which always sparks an "avalanche" of enquiries – to Heather Taylor Home’s broadsheet that does double duty as wrapping paper. Each one shows there’s still plenty of room to surprise people this season with something as familiar as a newspaper.
Reuse and regift
Regifting gets a bad rap, but giving your printed materials a second life is a clever (and more sustainable!) move. Heather Taylor Home's holiday broadsheet is a perfect example, featuring pull-out prints of their original patterns that double as totally gorgeous wrapping paper. You can see founder Heather Taylor flip through the newspaper on Instagram.
Champagne subscription service Fatcork took a similar approach, turning the centre spread of a tabloid into a sheet of wrapping paper for gifting bottles of bubbles.
"We had such a remarkable response after sending the newspapers out!"
- Fatcork
“Newsprint has a timeless appeal," says designer Anna Boswell. "And it's a warm and welcoming accessory for a product delivered to people’s homes.”
Make headlines
Monica Vinader used fake newspapers to share real news. For their Black Friday campaign, the jewellery brand turned our broadsheets into props for a series of playful, headline-themed videos announcing their sale. The result was a clever mix of print and digital, using the visual impact of a real newspaper to make online content feel more tangible. The posts got thousands of likes and lots of love in the comments: "The marketing team is on FIRE!!!"
Set the scene
The holidays are all about atmosphere and print is a great way to set the mood, whether that’s helping customers host in style or creating a moment of calm amid the chaos.
Homeware marketplace Glassette used our mini newspapers to bring their holiday gift guide off the screen and into readers’ hands. Filled with cocktail recipes and decorating tips (all featuring curated gift picks), it’s a blueprint for stylish hosting.
Meanwhile, wine brand Avaline’s seasonal tabloid invited readers to unwind with tips for hosting a home wine tasting, complete with a printed tasting mat at the centre spread.
Make a seasonal sensation
Choosing Keeping, the meticulously curated gift shop in London, has turned its holiday catalogue into a much-anticipated tradition. Printed as a mini newspaper, it features exquisite blown glass ornaments, wrapping papers and other festive finds from around the world. After sharing last year's edition on Instagram, they received an "avalanche" of inquiries (and over 2,700 likes!)
Get crafty
If sustainability’s on your mind, make something your customers will want to keep. Artisanal cheese and butter makers Vermont Creamery worked with lifestyle magazine Sweet Paul to produce a mini newspaper full of seasonal crafts and recipes that customers can revisit year after year. They even added a page of cut-out labels for gift tags and cheese boards!
"Printing beautiful newspapers with Newspaper Club is so fast and affordable. It's an easy add-on to make a [campaign] extra special."
-Sweet Paul
Think big
Make a big statement with our super-sized broadsheets. Luxury fragrance brand Apotheke used the format to turn their holiday catalogue into an interactive experience that takes two hands to read, with poster-sized visuals, puzzles and ‘scent horoscopes.’
Make it mobile
After you’ve captured customers’ attention with a snazzy print catalogue, add a QR code to keep the conversation going online. (They're simple to make - Canva has a free generator.)
Streetwear brand Goodhood used a QR code to promote a holiday giveaway, but you could just as easily link to your online gift guide or encourage newsletter sign-ups ahead of festive sales.
