Printing Questions

Below are some questions we get asked frequently about printing with Newspaper Club.

Can I have a sample newspaper to look at?

Yes. But if you want to print in Traditional Colour (above 300 copies), the easiest thing is to get any tabloid newspaper (like The Mirror or The Sun), take out a few pages, and that’s your sample. The paper and the reproduction will be exactly what we’re offering.

If you’d like a sample of our Digital Colour newspapers (5 to 300 copies) or still want a Traditional Colour sample, just send us your address to support@newspaperclub.com and we’ll pop one into the post for you.

How many pages can I have?

You can have any multiple of 4, from 4 to 64 pages. If in doubt, 12 pages is a good number. It’s thick enough to feel chunky, but not so thick that it’s hard to fill.

Can I print fewer than 300 copies in Traditional Colour?

Unfortunately not. For Traditional Colour printing, we use a huge web offset press which is designed for printing hundreds of thousands of copies as quickly as possible. Due to the effort involved in setting up the press, and the speed of the machine, we can’t offer Traditional Colour printing for any fewer than 300 copies.

Can I print black and white and one colour?

No. Unlike litho printing, in newspaper printing there isn’t a ‘third way’ between black and white and full colour where you can add a spot colour cheaply.

We can only print in full colour. We can’t do spot colours because it means stocking a huge range of individual inks and it means cleaning out the ink ducts between jobs, which is quite a task on a printer the size of a warehouse.

There is a way to create the same effect. You would design your paper to be black and white with a single colour, but we’d have to print it using the colour process and it would cost the same.

Are the papers stapled?

No, all of our papers are sent loose unless you ask for them to be stapled (‘stitched’ in printing language). The digital papers can’t be stitched but traditional newspapers can for a small charge.

Are the papers folded?

All newspapers are folded once, and digital papers are folded twice (‘endorse folded’). Traditional newspapers can be endorse folded on request for a small charge.

We can’t send any sheets unfolded, and we can’t do any more that two folds to any newspaper.
