Automation. The word dates back only to the 1940’s, when machines were created to manufacture and produce at a rapid pace. However, the word seems a bit threatening, as it takes away the human or hand element and the opportunity for chance or mistakes. Yet automation creates new vernaculars or styles and ultimately makes design easier. There is a Dadaist spirit in all of this, to perhaps bring chance back into design, which is the constant in human existence.
