Our Newspaper of the Month for October is Mis En Place, a portfolio of food photography from Melbourne-based Kristian Beek.
It’s hard to categorise Beek’s work. “I photograph delicious things” is how he puts it. More than that, Beek knows how to pack a surreal visual punch, whether shooting in a studio or greasy spoon. With Mise En Place, which he describes "a newspaper for dining, eating and taste", he's collected a year's worth of his best work in one easily digestible (and distributable) format – a digital tabloid newspaper.
Martin Parr meets Nigel Slater in this hefty 60-page publication – think saturated and stylised studies (see above) alongside lifestyle shoots for recipes like Dutch creams with chilli chive capers.
Beck's vibrant, high-contrast images are perfectly suited for newsprint and Mise en Place is an instant staff favourite. Flip through the rest of the newspaper in The Newsagent and see more of Beek's work on his website.
Every month, we give a £100 Newspaper Club voucher to one newspaper shared in our Newsagent. If you’ve printed a newspaper with us, share your newspaper (through the settings in your account) for a chance to win.
