Win a copy of Alan Kitching's A Life in Letterpress

Win a copy of Alan Kitching's new monograph, A Life in Letterpress

For more than fifty years, typographer and printmaker Alan Kitching has used his "wizard's mix of inks and fonts" (in the words of designer Derek Birdsall) to create colourful and expressive works in letterpress.

Now a new monograph, Alan Kitching: A Life in Letterpress, offers a career-spanning overview of Kitching's work – from his "first typographical experiments under the auspices of mentor Anthony Froshaug to his most iconic creations at The Typography Workshop." With more than 400 images from Kitching's archive, it's a pure treat for print lovers.

Hear Kitching read excerpts from the book (and go inside his studio!) in this lovely video from publisher Laurence King:

Alongside the book release, a retrospective exhibition of Kitching's work (designed and curated by Studio Chehade) has been on tour across the UK, with stops at Somerset House (as part of Pick Me Up 2016), Design Manchester and, as of last night, The Lighthouse in Glasgow.

The Lighthouse is the final stop of the tour and we're thrilled to have sponsored the newsprint catalogue – fittingly, the traditional tabloid looks back at Kitching's best work for The Guardian newspaper (You can pick one up for free at the exhibition!).

To celebrate, we're giving away a copy of A Life in Letterpress to one lucky reader – and there's a festive twist!
